South Africa has been added to an already very long list of countries calling for the resignation of the president of the International Automobile Federation, Max Mosley, following the scandal surrounding his private life.
South African Motorsport, through its head Beaulah Schoeman, has declared that its country will vote against the FIA president at the extraordinary meeting on June 3rd. The members are meeting specifically to discuss his future.
« Each member of the board of directors will have to decide whether or not Max Mosley should resign, » he told the Associated Press.
« I haven’t seen the video, but people’s private lives are none of our business. This video discredits not only the FIA but also motorsport as a whole. »
The FIA meeting will therefore take place in Paris where more than 200 members will take part in a vote of confidence regarding Mosley.
The Americans, Canadians, and Dutch have already demanded a resignation, while the federations of Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel have all questioned his position.
But Mosley clearly stated that he had no intention of stopping the mission entrusted to him and claimed to have the support of a large number of country associations.
So far, only the Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates has publicly declared its support for Mosley during this difficult period of his career.
