Everything is collapsing again at Super Aguri

Regarding the future of his team, Aguri Suzuki confirmed that the investment group that intended to buy the structure has withdrawn its offer.

Magma announced today that its investors no longer wished to finance the acquisition of the team. This has once again cast doubt on the possibilities for Super Aguri to maintain its place in Formula 1.

Having conducted several days of negotiations with Honda’s management to ensure the team’s future, Suzuki has issued a statement announcing that the team is currently working on alternative solutions.

The statement read: « Super Aguri F1 Team confirms that it has been informed by the Magma Group, the potential buyers of the team, that its investors no longer wish to finance the takeover. »

« It is with deep regret that Aguri Suzuki is now forced to rethink the future of his team, but negotiations with other parties continue. »

It seems likely that the presence of the Japanese team for the next Grand Prix weekend in Spain depends on Honda, specifically whether it continues to finance it by providing spare parts until a new sponsor is found.

Suzuki is convinced to continue working with Honda and to find a solution before Friday.

At the time, Honda had approved Magma’s offer because it believed that this proposal offered the best possible opportunity for Super-Aguri to become a constructor before the 2009 season.

The future of Super Aguri had been jeopardized at the beginning of the year, as it missed most of the pre-season tests and at the last minute the Magma group ensured its presence on the starting grid in Melbourne.
