Ferrari driver Felipe Massa believes that the reintroduction of slick tires will enhance the intensity of the spectacle for Formula 1 fans in 2009.
The Brazilian conducted the tests in Barcelona with this type of tires on Tuesday and admitted that the grip of these tires will place more emphasis on the driver’s skills.
« I tried the slick tires yesterday, and I really liked them. But it won’t be exactly the same next season because new rules will change regarding the car, » commented Massa.
« However, I must say that coming back to a single-seater where you have an incredible grip is quite rewarding, which means the driver has to make a great effort. I really enjoyed myself: Slick tires with a good car are very pleasant. »
« It might be easier to overtake. Slick tires give you more mechanical grip, and that’s what allows you to be on track without losing aerodynamic load. The show should be even more beautiful. »
Massa also expressed his satisfaction with the new aerodynamic developments of the F2008, which include a hole in the nose and in the front part of the wing.
« The F2008 looks like a shark. I would say that, little by little, we have improved the car. So I’m not saying the car will go a second faster. »
« I am satisfied with the single-seater, it is very fast and consistent every time I have used it yesterday and today, » he added.
