Renault completed its third day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya today. The team made the most of the dry and sunny conditions to continue evaluating the developments made to the R28 ahead of the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso was once again behind the wheel. He followed a fairly busy setup program in the morning before switching to slick tires just before the lunch break. The Spaniard then set the fastest time of the session.
Nelson Piquet will take over tomorrow, the last scheduled test day this week. The Brazilian will continue the work started at the beginning of the week, although the forecasted showers may disrupt his program.
Fernando Alonso: « The day was positive and I am satisfied with the developments that have been made on the car. We must continue to progress, however, as it seems that our rivals have also improved their performance. So, it is difficult to really judge where we stand in relation to them, and we will have to wait until next week to know for sure. I had fun with the slick tires, which have excellent grip. »
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: « We worked on the settings this morning in preparation for the next Grand Prix, then we fitted the slick tires just before the lunch break. We are generally satisfied with how this test is going. Although the weather forecast for tomorrow is not optimistic, we have already completed the vast majority of our program in three days. »
