The DTM could make its grand return to Austria once the A1 Ring circuit has been renovated by Red Bull, according to the leaders.
The track hosted the DTM series for three consecutive years between 2001 and 2003 before being demolished at the end of the 2003 season. However, the circuit is expected to be restored in time by the Austrian energy drink giant for the start of next season.
Hans Werner Aufrecht, head of the DTM, is ready to take over the direction of Austria and also plans to organize races in Russia and China.
« It’s no secret that Austria was a great destination for the DTM. Each year, we doubled the number of spectators. We were happy there, and we certainly will be if we return to that country again, if the new track allows, of course, » Aufrecht stated.
The DTM also confirmed last weekend that the first race of the season will still take place at Hockenheim for the next three years, where nearly 93,000 spectators attended the event.
