It was under the rain that Renault concluded its four-day test session at the Circuit de Catalunya today. Consequently, the team’s program was adjusted and the R28 stayed in the garage for a good part of the day.
Nelson Piquet took over after the two days of testing conducted by Fernando Alonso, and it was planned for him to evaluate the slick tires in the morning. Weather conditions forced the team to revise their plans, and the track only dried out late in the afternoon. That said, it was possible to switch to rain tires, allowing Nelson to increase his experience in these conditions.
Despite the limited running on this last day, the team experienced a productive week in Barcelona and achieved most of the session’s objectives. They now turn their attention to the Spanish Grand Prix, where they are keen to reap the rewards of the work done in recent weeks.
Nelson Piquet: « The weather conditions did not allow us to do much driving today. It’s a shame. The rain stopped after the midday break and the track started to dry, but a shower broke out in the middle of the afternoon, making any outing on the track difficult. During the last hour, the circuit was usable and we managed to put in a few laps. Overall, these four days of testing have been productive. We have worked hard to be competitive at the Spanish Grand Prix next week. »
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: « The rain was really heavy this morning and we lost quite a bit of time. That said, it stopped for a while and we were able to send Nelson on track to complete a few laps. We didn’t learn much today, but we had a positive session during which the team worked very hard to prepare as best as possible for the upcoming Grand Prix. »
