Michael Schumacher’s son, Mick, is following in his father’s footsteps as he took part in his first karting race in Spain, which was hosting a round of the Open RACC.
Mick used his mother’s last name, Betsch, to try to go unnoticed for his racing debut. However, he wore a helmet with a design very similar to his father’s, even though the red had been replaced with blue.
The magazine Bild reports that Mick went to Spain with his grandfather Rolf. The young Schumacher finished eighth and tenth in the two races.
The seven-time world champion had previously stated that he didn’t see his son following the same path as him.
« I’d prefer he played golf, tennis, or something like that, » Schumacher had stated upon his return in 2005.
« I think the pressure on him would be enormous, I can’t even imagine it. »
« It’s a very heavy burden and I see no reason to insist. If he has another area of interest, I would be much happier. »
