The young Spaniard, Dani Sordo, took the lead in the Shakedown today, marking the first official return of WRC in a month. The Citroen driver made several passes on the special stage in question and was only two-tenths ahead of the Italian Gigi Galli in a Ford Focus. The weekend is taking place in Jordan, the first time in the Middle East in over 30 years.
The road used for this shakedown was 7.5 kilometers from the Dead Sea service park. The outside temperature had already reached 41°C by the end of the session.
Sordo and his teammate Sébastien Loeb completed four laps. Gigi Galli was the most diligent with ten laps between 8 am and 12 pm this morning.
Replacement for Luis Perez Companc in the Munchi’s Ford team, Barry Clark made five runs, improving his times with each run. His time went from 1’29”2 to 1’21”7 on his last run.
The best time of Per-Gunnar Andersson was two seconds slower than his teammate Toni Gardemeister at Suzuki: “I had technical problems,” announces Andersson. “It was a hydraulic issue that affected the gearbox control and the clutch. I had trouble getting the car going. Fortunately, we have a little time to repair before the start.”
