Toyota did not manage to find the right setup this Friday to make its cars competitive, and the result is evident as neither of the two drivers could do better than the 11th fastest time.
Worse, young Timo Glock finished the afternoon in 20th place right in the middle of the Super Aguri and Toro Rosso cars. The problem stems from the fact that the Japanese team failed to find the right balance to apply to the car.
Jarno Trulli – 14th and 14th
« This Friday could be associated with a relentless struggle. There was wind that contributed to making the single-seater very difficult from a setup perspective. We will therefore have to review all the data and try to understand where we can improve. My tests here last week were disrupted by the weather but overall, they seemed promising. »
« Our results show that, this year, we have a competitive car. Like most teams, we have a new package. »
Timo Glock – 11th and 20th
« It was difficult to work today. The car behaved well last week during testing. Today, it was completely different with a glaring lack of grip. It’s the same for everyone but it was very difficult to find the right balance. »
« Now, we will have to work hard to find the right direction to take tomorrow and Sunday. »
Dieter Gass – Chief Engineer of Racing and Testing
« We fought hard to find the right balance for the single-seater. It’s a disappointing conclusion after having tested here last week. »
« However, I don’t think the situation is as bad as the timesheet suggests. There are cars around us that give us good benchmarks. I’m not too worried about the performance of our car. »
