Report – Saturday – Kubica okay, Heidfeld could have done better

Positive result but without any real accomplishment from the BMW-Sauber team. Yet, Heidfeld had set the tone in the morning by leading the third practice session. He will ultimately start from the 5th row tomorrow for the race.

Kubica, for his part, was much more consistent with a 4th place in qualifying and in practice. Once again, the German team is on par with Ferrari and other McLaren.

Robert Kubica – 4th and 4th:

« It was a good qualifying session. I am very happy because I managed to do a very fast lap in Q2 and Q3. I am also particularly pleased with the second qualifying session as I finished with the second-fastest time using only one set of tires. I look forward to tomorrow’s race, and I think I can be competitive. »

Nick Heidfeld – 1st and 9th:

I’m not very happy with this 9th place. Sure, qualifying in the top ten is reasonable, but my last lap wasn’t sufficient. Having graining at the end of the lap didn’t help.

I sincerely hope that I will make a good start tomorrow. For me, Ferrari is performing better than expected here, Renault apparently is even if Fernando Alonso doesn’t have much fuel on board his single-seater.

Mario Theissen – Director of BMW Motorsport:

« Robert managed to have a good lap and got the most out of his car. I consider his fourth position on the starting grid as honorable. Nick didn’t have a good lap as we expected to be a bit closer to the front row. Anyway, since the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, we have managed to qualify both our cars in the top ten places without exception. »
