Toro Rosso Review – The team struck by bad luck…

While the arrival date of the STR3 still hasn’t been confirmed two weeks ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix, it was yet another difficult weekend for the small Scuderia. Indeed, two retirements are to be attributed to the team’s record this evening.

First of all, Vettel is still riding the wave of bad luck as he collided with Sutil after a few hundred meters. The Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais didn’t fare much better as he managed to complete 7 laps before being hit by Piquet. Will the STR3 be able to get the team back on track?

Sébastien Bourdais – Retirement:

« I can’t say exactly what happened until I watch the replay. All I know is that I checked my mirrors and at that precise moment Nelson didn’t seem to be in a position to attack, even though he was close to me. »

« I braked quite late at turn 10 then I started to turn into the corner and suddenly, he was there next to me. That’s the story. It’s very frustrating because we had done a very good job throughout the weekend.

Sebastian Vettel – Withdrawal

It’s very disappointing, especially since I couldn’t do anything. The collision happened at turn 4. Adrian Sutil was way too opportunistic in attempting an overtaking maneuver. He overtook one car and then others until he reached my level.

« I tried to pass on the inside, but there was no room for me. I could have succeeded in my action but a Super-Aguri was also trying to overtake me. Now we have to think about Istanbul, hoping that we can run with the new car to get out of this back of the grid where I have so many problems at the start of races. »

Franz Tost – Director:

« Our races are very short at the moment, too short! Vettel stopped at turn 4 in the first lap while Bourdais could only complete six laps. Vettel couldn’t do anything as Sutil came straight at him and Bourdais couldn’t avoid the collision with Piquet. »
