End of the line for Williams with a slight tinge of bitterness in the end. Indeed, despite his absence from the qualifying session, Nico Rosberg could have brought valuable points to his team. However, his engine had other plans, and retiring was inevitable.
Nakajima saves Williams from disaster as he finishes 7th and thus earns 2 points. The Japanese driver took advantage of the many retirements to position himself in the Top 8.
Kazuki Nakajima – 7th:
« It was a great race and it was important for me to score points today. I did it with this 7th place but Button’s position, who finished just ahead of me, was within reach. »
« I am, all the same, happy with this result. There are, of course, possibilities for improvement, but five points collected over the first four races represent, in my eyes, a great achievement. »
Nico Rosberg – Abandon:
In the end, today’s result is a combination of several elements. We had a new aerodynamic package for this race, and we went in the wrong direction when it came to experimenting with it.
« Everything was really going well at the start of the race. I had a good start, took the right lines to finally move from 15th to 11th place on just the first lap. I even had a chance to overtake Jarno Trulli who was sixth at that time. So I could have finished seventh because overtaking was impossible, which would have been good. That’s where the current frustration comes from. »
Sam Michael – Technical Director:
« It is good to score points with Kazuki Nakajima, these allow us to maintain our position in the constructors’ championship even if we could have scored more. »
« Nico Rosberg was well placed as he was sixth after benefiting from the second safety car intervention. Unfortunately, he was the victim of an engine failure. We have not yet identified the problem; it is currently under investigation. »
