Super-Aguri must be thinking tonight that even if it were to disappear after Wednesday’s meeting, it would have given everything for its last race weekend. Certainly, Davidson had to retire quite quickly due to a radiator problem, but Takuma Sato managed to raise the level…
The Japanese driver finished 13th out of 13, but made a remarkable breakthrough mid-race when he was on the verge of scoring points. A few minutes later, he was overtaken by Coulthard for 12th and second-to-last place.
Takuma Sato – 13th:
« It was a difficult race, but a race that I enjoyed. The start was quite good as I overtook a number of cars. In front of me, there were collisions with debris that I couldn’t avoid and which obviously affected my aerodynamic balance. »
« The team said I could keep fighting. At one point, we were in the middle of the drivers, even up to ninth place, it was a fantastic feeling. The engineers did an excellent job in more than difficult circumstances this April weekend. I am very happy for them and all the people who support us. I wish we could maintain this momentum. »
Anthony Davidson – Retirement:
« It was a disappointing end to the weekend for me. After the incident involving Piquet, he brought a lot of gravel onto the track and a stone damaged my water radiator. »
« I had previously made a good start and felt comfortable in the car until this incident. It’s very unfortunate to have had to retire so early, but I want to thank everyone on the team for their hard work and the determination they show. »
Aguri Suzuki – Team Principal:
« A difficult race with only just over half of the drivers managing to cross the finish line. Despite the fact that we did not conduct a trial here last week, both drivers and all the mechanics as well as the engineers did an excellent job. »
« I am sorry for Anthony Davidson as he retired due to a radiator failure. Takuma Sato had a very good race in a difficult situation. He finished 13th, which is our best result so far this season. »
