Sutil must think he was born under a bad star, as out of four Grand Prix races, the one in Spain once again means retirement after those in Australia and Malaysia. No hope was harbored for the German, as he withdrew from the race right from the first lap.
Fisichella, on his part, is increasingly establishing himself as the reliable asset of this young Indian team. The former Renault driver finishes 10th after experiencing the feeling of an 8th place which awards a point in the various rankings. Force India is thus on the right track…
Adrian Sutil – Retirement:
« Another disappointing day. After a good start, at the 4th corner, I was on the inside and tried to overtake another car that was too close. I collided with that single-seater and my race ended there. A very disappointing weekend… »
Giancarlo Fisichella – 10th:
A 10th place is the best result of the season so far. I know several cars retired due to, among other things, accidents, but I did my best. After the first safety car intervention, the car was very competitive. I was comfortable at that point in the race.
I really enjoyed the fight with Heidfeld, but he was faster than me. However, I managed to keep him behind me for many laps. We need to keep working again and again.
Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director:
« 50/50, both drivers got off to excellent starts, but unfortunately Adrian Sutil had to retire on the first lap. Giancarlo Fisichella had an excellent race and managed to gain several positions. »
« There was a difficult period as his first stop was based on the safety car. Fisichella did an excellent job conserving his fuel to allow him to wait until the pits were accessible again. »
The 8th place was possible. But we are still satisfied with the team’s first Top 10. Once again, our race pace shows that we are indeed present. The main improvement needs to happen on Saturday during the qualifying session, specifically on a fast lap.
