Sam Michael has indicated that his team might use, in the relatively near future, the new wings sported by Renault and Red Bull.
Fernando Alonso joked in Barcelona that his team could now participate in the America’s Cup with such a shark fin. However, its launch coincided with a remarkable step forward from the French team.
Williams technical director Sam Michael admitted that his team had already considered the idea of this aerodynamic element.
« Not everything we experiment with is necessarily present on our single-seater, » he wrote in his column for the Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell.
Michael added that he had seen this concept for the first time in Champ Car, ten years ago.
Moreover, when Williams had this idea, they considered that its aerodynamic efficiency was not significant enough for most ‘normal’ tracks.
« Maybe with their configuration, it works better. It is possible that in the future we can use this element.
