Dennis praises Spanish fans…

McLaren boss Ron Dennis thanked the Spanish spectators for their exemplary behavior during the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend. This was particularly noteworthy as racist behavior had been observed during winter testing.

But Dennis stated that neither he nor his team experienced any problems.

« We were received very warmly, » he stated while welcoming King Juan Carlos visiting the McLaren garage before the race.

As you know, the circuit is located about 20 kilometers from the center of Barcelona. Every morning and every evening, I commuted from my hotel, and I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly behavior of the Spanish fans.

« The many supporters of Fernando Alonso, most of whom wore Renault team shirts, were very friendly. A feeling we already knew from them. »

Everyone remembers the racist behavior towards Hamilton during a private testing session in early February. The McLaren F1 team boss stated: « The incident you’re referring to is obviously a very isolated case. »

« I am certain that an overwhelming majority of Spanish fans are true Formula 1 enthusiasts, in other words, genuine motorsport fans who are enthusiastic and well-informed. »

« The fact that Fernando Alonso excelled in qualifying delighted his supporters. That said, our own Spanish driver, Pedro de la Rosa, is also very popular in Spain and rightly so, » he concluded.
