The technical director of BMW Sauber, Willy Rampf, believes that the top three teams in the constructors’ standings are extremely close to each other. As evidence, a slight improvement of the F1.08 next week at the Turkish Grand Prix could push the German team to the top of the podium.
Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica have been remarkable at the start of the season but lacked the speed to beat Ferrari.
But Rampf thinks that the fight between BMW Sauber, Ferrari, and McLaren is so tight that the slightest small factor could work in the team’s favor.
« The Barcelona race showed that the hierarchy has not changed. Ferrari still has the advantage, while McLaren-Mercedes and BMW-Sauber are practically on equal footing, » commented Rampf.
« The situation is so tight that the slightest change could alter the order of things. »
BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen simply wants his team to maintain its position alongside McLaren and Ferrari at the front of the grid for the next race in Istanbul, Turkey.
« Our goals for the Turkish Grand Prix are clear: We want to consolidate our position among the leaders, where Ferrari is currently the benchmark, » he explained.
« For the fifth race of the season, all the improvements we have made to the F1.08 will once again be felt.
