Toyota has been on an upward trajectory since the start of the season and is one of the surprises of this year 2008. After four races, the results are clear: The Japanese team has already scored more points than it did in 2007.
It is Jarno Trulli who is leading the team by accumulating points, and he hopes the streak will continue in Turkey. Glock is more overshadowed due to lack of experience but wishes above all to reverse the trend…
Jarno Trulli – Racing Driver:
« I have always loved going to Turkey, so I’m looking forward to this race. I am convinced that we are competitive because we demonstrated it again in Spain. But we have also seen that we must do our utmost to get into the top six. The competition is so tight that small things can make the difference for the final result. The facilities at Istanbul Park are grand, and the track itself is interesting, even if it’s not my favorite. »
« It’s not the most difficult race, but there are one or two challenging corners like turn 8 because it is very fast. We have been competitive on all circuits since the start of the season. We should expect to be in the top 10 and score points. I am determined to achieve another good result this weekend and I truly believe we are in a strong position to do so. »
Timo Glock – Racing Driver
« I have good memories in Turkey because I had good results and experienced exciting races in GP2. I remember a battle with Lewis Hamilton in 2006 that I won in a sprint during the last race of the season. It’s a beautiful track because it’s modern and the facilities are as well. But the most important thing for a driver is that the circuit is exciting to drive.
Our car has been able to compete with the competition since the beginning of the season, and we have other improvements planned for this weekend, which shows how hard everyone is working. Spain was a difficult weekend for me, and I hope that in Turkey, we will have a bit more luck and, why not, score my first points with Toyota.
Pascal Vasselon – Technical Director:
« Turn 8 is key, it is simply one of the most demanding of the season. Consequently, the balance of the car and the use of the tires are important. »
« We go to Turkey with optimism because we know from the first four races that our car is competitive and capable of challenging the top six. In Spain, with Trulli, that wasn’t the case, but it’s encouraging to fight again for that position. Thus, the goal for this weekend must be to be at the forefront and cross the checkered flag with both our cars. »
