Following a medical examination at the Istanbul circuit on Thursday morning, Heikki Kovalainen has been cleared to participate in the Turkish Grand Prix.
A spokesperson for McLaren confirmed that the Finn, who emerged unscathed from a crash at over 230km/h during the Spanish Grand Prix, will race alongside Lewis Hamilton.
« After a medical examination conducted by the FIA’s medical delegate, Professor Jean-Charles Piette, and the Grand Prix doctor, Dr. Cem Boneval, Heikki Kovalainen was authorized to participate in the 2008 Turkish Grand Prix, » stated the FIA in a declaration.
Kovalainen was taken to the hospital with suspected concussion following his crash at the Spanish Grand Prix. He remained under observation for one night.
He then returned home to Finland, where he recovered by the end of last week, even stating that he would have no fear of getting back behind the wheel after the accident.
« I want to get back to racing as soon as possible, since the accident, it’s my only goal, » he commented.
