Mark Webber has stated that he is determined to stay with the Red Bull Racing team now that it has taken a step forward in terms of performance.
The Australian joined the Milton Keynes team at the beginning of last season. His contract expires at the end of the 2008 season.
But Webber claims that Red Bull’s current form has convinced him to want to stay with the Red Bull team. He is already in talks about his future.
“We are currently talking about it. I am without a contract in 2009, but I want to stay with the team,” said Webber in Istanbul.
« What I love about this team is that I’m employed to drive a single-seater, and together we are constantly striving to improve it. It’s wonderful. »
Webber scored a total of 10 points over the entire last season, with a team lacking reliability.
Things have improved since then as the Australian has already scored eight points in four races. He qualified in the top ten on four occasions in just five races.
The Red Bull driver admits that his team’s good form is an asset for his motivation.
« I have always said that I do not want to fight forever for the 12th, 13th, or 14th place, » he added.
« I am motivated, for the moment, by the ongoing battles, alongside, for example, Fernando Alonso. Fights like those encountered in Barcelona, » concluded Webber.
