Lewis Hamilton said he was happy to finish second in Turkey with a three-stop strategy.
The McLaren driver started from third place and admitted after the race that he didn’t expect to be so strong.
The Briton fought tooth and nail with Massa, only to finish four seconds behind the Brazilian. But despite that, Hamilton is thrilled with the result.
« I am delighted with this second place, » he acknowledged.
We knew it was going to be difficult to challenge Ferrari’s supremacy and score points. But I was able to follow Felipe and even overtake him. At the end of the race, the soft tires were a disaster, but I managed to withstand Räikkönen’s attacks.
Hamilton had to stop three times due to uncertainties with his tires. The McLaren driver stated that this strategy hindered his chances of winning.
The reason we made three stops comes from Bridgestone. The equipment manufacturer thought the tires were going to fail, like last year. I must say a big thank you to the team for doing an excellent job in the paddocks.
Hamilton has reduced the gap with the championship leader, Kimi Räikkönen, to seven points, even though the Briton is now tied on points with Massa in second place.
