David Coulthard did not want to comment on his future prospects in Formula 1, while his Red Bull Racing teammate, Mark Webber, recently revealed that he was in talks with the team for a contract extension.
With a seat that could be reserved for Sebastian Vettel of Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2009, Coulthard and Webber could be in competition for the second race seat.
Webber has, at the start of this season, a dazzling form. Indeed, he has scored, for now, all the points that the team holds in the championship. The Australian is therefore logically the one who has the best chance of staying with the Red Bull team.
However, the fact that Webber makes a public statement about his future is, according to the Scotsman, a move to clarify his situation with respect to other teams: He is trying to show that his teammate is on the transfer market.
« Speaking about his career, my teammate Mark Webber told the media during the Istanbul race that he has started talks with Red Bull with the aim of extending his contract, » stated Coulthard.
« If I try to rationalize what Mark says, I can only assume that he is indeed interviewing with the team but by doing so he also stimulates interest in him from the rest of the paddock. »
Speaking about his own future, Coulthard added: As far as my own situation is concerned, I will not say anything until I have concrete information.
