Monaco GP – Ferrari will be on top according to Räikkönen

Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari expects to be very competitive at the Monaco Grand Prix. He believes that the Italian team has made a step forward on circuits where the average speed is low compared to other tracks.

Last year, the Scuderia was not able to maintain a pace matching that of McLaren. In fact, Ferrari has not won at Monte Carlo since 2001 with Michael Schumacher.

But after the week of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit, Räikkönen thinks that his team has made progress on tracks like the one in the principality. He expects Ferrari to be very strong.

« The tests went very well, » said Räikkönen, who arrives in Monaco leading the drivers’ championship, seven points ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa.

« We tried new elements. The car performs better on this type of circuit: slow. I think Ferrari has made a big step in this area where we are stronger than last year. »

« Ferrari will be very competitive, but there is also McLaren and BMW. Having always said that Monaco rhymes with surprise, it’s the most open of all the races this year, » continued the Finn.

« Last year, we only scored one point here in Monaco. I wasn’t happy that day. But in the end, it was a very valuable point for me, » he added since he won the title with a one-point lead.

The Ferrari driver insisted that it was crucial to avoid any problems during Friday’s practice to ensure a highly competitive weekend.

« In Turkey, we missed the most important session. This time, we hope to work without any problems. Especially since all the drivers are very close to each other, particularly in qualifying. It is therefore very important to achieve a quick lap. »

Overtaking is almost impossible, so the car must be very well positioned on the grid. It is important to qualify well.
