The race stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix have decided that no action will be taken against Rubens Barrichello, who allegedly impeded Giancarlo Fisichella during the qualifying session.
Fisichella finished in 20th and last position, feeling that his best lap had been disrupted by the presence of Barrichello ahead of him, who was driving slowly.
The Italian said: “My first run wasn’t good, but the second was better. However, my lap could have been faster if I hadn’t ended up behind Barrichello right after the pool. He slowed me down. It’s very, very frustrating.”
Barrichello and Fisichella were called to review this famous lap, but after the race officials searched for evidence and spoke to the drivers, it was decided that Barrichello did nothing to warrant a penalty.
A statement released Saturday night asserts: « The commissioners heard the explanations of both parties. The commissioners and the drivers decided that the incident did not require any action. »
