On the Montreal track in Canada, where the Englishman had achieved his first victory, Lewis Hamilton secured a very impressive pole position yesterday. He will therefore start from the ideal position with the aim of winning this Grand Prix.
« Obtaining pole position here in Montreal is truly magnificent. The car seems very competitive and we are really in great shape this weekend. » declared the Englishman in the press conference yesterday.
I lost a bit of time on my penultimate lap of phase 3 of qualifying by going a bit wide in a corner. I was aware that Kimi Räikkönen and Robert Kubica were close behind, so I gave my best for my last lap.
« On my last lap, I managed to gain more than six-tenths, which allowed me to take this pole position. I thank all the team members and hope to offer them a victory tomorrow. » finished as the 2007 World Vice Champion.
As for Kovalainen, his teammate, he will start from seventh position. Hampered in the final qualifying laps by traffic, he failed to match the lap times of the cars ahead.
« My position on the grid is mainly due to the fact that I couldn’t complete a clean lap during the third phase of qualifying. I was stuck in traffic which didn’t help me find a good rhythm… » commented the Finn.
« I hope to have a better race tomorrow. Congratulations to Lewis on his pole position as he worked hard all weekend to achieve this result. The races are always chaotic here, so hopefully, this can help me a little tomorrow! »
