The future of the Australian Grand Prix seems to have been secured, according to an article stating that the event will remain at the Albert Park circuit until 2015.
According to this newspaper, the Herald Sun, the government of the State of Victoria has reached a verbal agreement to extend the contract for a new five-year period.
A high government source confirmed to the newspaper that the race would remain in Melbourne, stating that an announcement was imminent: “We have not signed the agreement, but we will do so very soon.”
The operation would put an end to recent speculations about the future of the event.
The source confirmed that the Premier of Victoria and Bernie Ecclestone have agreed to a deal, even though the race will not be held at night.
However, the Grand Prix is expected to take place later with a race start at 5 PM local time.
