Alonso remains undecided about his future

Fernando Alonso stated that he is not yet sure if he will remain with the Renault team after the end of this season.

The Spaniard is said to have a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave the French team at the end of the year.

Alonso, back at Renault after a year with McLaren, has scored nine points in seven races and is in ninth position in the driver standings.

The double world champion notes that this season is worse than he had imagined and that he will make a decision about his future a little later in the season.

« I don’t know if I will stay with Renault, » he declared during a press conference on Monday.

« To date, this is not a good year and it’s worse than expected. We have never been on the podium, let alone won a race. »

« We have a lot of work to do. I will make a decision about my future towards the end of the year when we are able to see the future prospects. »

However, the Renault driver is positive that the team can deliver a strong race at Magny-Cours this weekend.

« In France, we have a lot of support and for me it’s like the Barcelona race. During the week, the team worked hard and made improvements to the car during testing. We made a step forward, » Alonso continued.

I feel fully confident at the moment and we are heading in the right direction.
