The French Federation of Automobile Sport, the FFSA, confirmed this Wednesday that it has made a request for France to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2009.
The FFSA has a contract for this French Grand Prix until 2011, but doubts were looming regarding its future after Bernie Ecclestone had clearly indicated several times that he did not want to see F1 at the Magny-Cours circuit.
However, the French organization stated this Wednesday that next year, there will indeed be a race.
The FFSA will meet tomorrow to ratify the decision and decide on the future of the race from 2010 onwards.
“I anticipated the decision of the FFSA General Assembly by confirming the 2009 French Grand Prix on the FIA calendar,” said FFSA President Nicolas Deschaux.
« Of course, the General Assembly, which will meet tomorrow, Thursday, will have to confirm this decision, and also to determine the future of the French Grand Prix from 2010. »
The race is therefore expected to take place in 2009 at Magny-Cours, whose officials have unveiled a redevelopment plan to improve the facilities in time for 2009.
