Hard work and tenacity pay off at McLaren

McLaren has promoted a long-time manager within the Woking team, appointing Dave Ryan as the sporting director.

Ryan joined McLaren as a mechanic in 1974 and after progressing through the positions of chief mechanic and factory manager, he became team manager in 1990.

He has maintained this status until now, as his new role will allow him to take on more responsibilities for McLaren. A safe bet for the team.

F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh stated: « Given his stature within the team, the commitment he has shown to this role, we thought that the title of sporting director best reflected his progressive evolution within McLaren. »

« Dave is very attached to this team he joined in 1974 and played a central role in developing the team in racing, ultimately being responsible for what it is today. »

We all appreciate Dave’s contribution: he is loyal, straightforward, and does not shy away from work. In fact, it is essential for McLaren’s interests that he is present at all race weekends. Therefore, he deserved a broader role, Whitmarsh concluded.
