Timo Glock has taken the wheel of a Formula 1 car again

Timo Glock was involved in a serious accident last Sunday during the German Grand Prix. The Toyota driver crashed into the pit wall at over 100 km/h after the failure of his right rear suspension.

The German was suffering from back pain and stayed overnight in the hospital for observation. He got back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car today for the first time since his accident.

Glock thus drove for the Japanese team in Jerez, Spain. It was the third day of private testing on the Iberian circuit. Toyota planned to carry out a fourth day of testing tomorrow, with Kamui Kobayashi at the wheel of the TF108 evolution 4.

Timo Glock took advantage of sunny and still warm weather to complete 78 laps, totaling 345 kilometers. At the end of the day, he felt relieved: « It’s good to be back in the cockpit of an F1, especially when the day is as positive as it was today. »

Toyota’s schedule was planned very early in the day. The goal was to suffer as little as possible from the heat: « We attacked very hard this morning in order to progress as quickly as possible. By lunchtime, a large part of the planned program was completed. »

The rest of the day was focused on aerodynamic testing, but it was not very conclusive: In the afternoon it was much too hot to have a real sense of the car’s performance, but the important thing was to regain my feeling inside an F1.

Timo Glock ultimately achieved the 8th fastest time of the day with a best lap of 1’20”421.
