Nick Heidfeld stated he is calm about his future in Formula 1 after having completed a more than respectable first half of the season.
The BMW-Sauber driver was, a few weeks ago, 19 points behind his teammate Robert Kubica in the championship after several underperformances in qualifying. However, his second place at Silverstone and his fourth place at Hockenheim have boosted his confidence.
« I had problems but we managed to turn the page. I am very happy with the current situation, » he confided in Hungary.
« The support that has been provided to me over the past few weeks has really mattered to me. The team is fantastic and has really helped me. I worked tirelessly with my engineers to overcome the problems and it worked. »
Heidfeld admitted he was surprised to be only seven points behind Kubica and now wants to surpass him by the end of the year.
« That surprises me and makes me very happy at the same time. I have been able to score a number of points. »
« Of course, I want to beat my teammate like everyone else, but the goal remains the fourth place. I finished fifth last year with a car that was far below this season’s. It won’t be easy, but that’s my goal. »
