Räikkönen gets closer to the WRC!

The director of the Ford team in WRC, Malcolm Wilson, offered the reigning Formula 1 world champion, Kimi Räikkönen, a test drive in one of the team’s Ford Focus WRC cars.

The Ferrari driver, whose contract with Scuderia Ferrari ends at the conclusion of the 2009 season, recently stated that it would be interesting to try rallying once his F1 career is over.

« I would like to offer him a trial session, » suggested Wilson for Eurosport.

« This would be an excellent opportunity for us. »

The current WRC world champion, Sébastien Loeb, is also open to the idea of Räikkönen taking this test, all amidst rumors about the latter’s future after 2009.

« I am in favor of this idea because it is good to have big names in motor sports associated with the WRC, » he commented.

Loeb thinks that the Finn’s adaptation to this trial will be difficult given the fundamental difference in the tracks.

« But with the talent he has and with a bit of practice, he will undoubtedly be able to adapt and find a good rhythm, » explained the 34-year-old Frenchman.
