Bourdais: Is he on an ejector seat?

Sébastien Bourdais must deliver better performances at the end of this season for his future with Toro Rosso to be certain. This is, in any case, the warning from Gerhard Berger, co-owner of the small Scuderia.

The Frenchman arrived in Formula 1 this season after dominating the Champ Car World Series in the United States, which has since disappeared.

But while his teammate Sebastian Vettel was promoted by joining Red Bull in 2009, Bourdais, on the other hand, has faced many difficulties since the debut of the STR3 in Monaco.

« What we have seen of him so far is not too bad, » said Berger to the Spanish magazine ‘Grand Prix’.

« Until now, he was in a learning phase; good results cannot arrive in the blink of an eye. »

« Bourdais will continue the adventure with us in 2009 only if he shows us his potential from now on, » he insisted.

Meanwhile, amid speculation about Bruno Senna replacing Vettel for 2009, Berger also gave a boost to the hopes of drivers such as Sébastien Buemi, who this year is the test driver for Red Bull.

As for the young Spaniard, Jaime Alguersuari, who is showcasing all his talents in British F3, Berger believes he is not yet ready for F1.

« It is clear that Alguersuari is still at a very early stage of his development as a driver. »

« Of all the guys at Red Bull, the only one who might have a chance for 2009, I believe it’s Buemi, » concluded Berger.
