Frank Williams refuses to entertain the idea of abandoning all development on this year’s car to focus exclusively on the 2009 season.
Although the Williams team has been lacking performance for several Grand Prix after a good start to the year, the team from Grove wishes to maintain a balance between current work and next year’s car.
This approach aims to compete with its closest rival in the championship, Honda Racing, which decided at the start of the season to focus as much as possible on the RA109.
Regarding the allocation of resources, Williams stated: « We are present in Formula 1 for every race, so a full season and not just for half a year. We have two separate programs, one for the current car with much more resources than the other. »
Williams revealed that the team has the ability to continue its work on the FW08 because it started working on it very early.
« We started designing the mechanics of the 2008 single-seater as early as October and November 2007, » he added.
At the moment, as has always been the case, we have more people mobilized on the current single-seater than on the next one because we started the work very early. Therefore, the pressure is not significant at the moment.
