Mexico remains hopeful of being added to the official Formula 1 calendar in 2010.
A vice president of the FIA, Jose Abed, claims that Bernie Ecclestone has given the green light to add two new races to the 2010 calendar.
« These modifications will be made by 2010 and, if they happen, Mexico is working and will work tirelessly to provide drivers and fans with an unprecedented track. However, we must wait for Bernie Ecclestone to decide to include Mexico, » he stated.
Abed, who participated in the Mexican Grand Prix held in Mexico City between 1986 and 1992, added that Puebla, Cancun, and Tijuana are interested in hosting the event.
Finally, he confided that the governments, at both the federal and regional levels, are ready to support the race.
« We are able to do it because the authorities are willing to make investments. All that remains is to allow it, as a Formula 1 track costs around 50 million dollars, which is more than 33 million euros. »
