Renault is in mourning after the former head of aerodynamics, Dino Toso, passed away this morning at the age of 39 following a long illness.
The Italian was diagnosed with cancer in 2004 but continued his work at Renault throughout his treatment. The greatest rewards were the driver and constructor titles won in 2005 and 2006.
He left his position last June and passed away peacefully at his home today.
Toso entered the world of motorsport in 1995, working as an engineer on the BMW GT program before continuing his career at Jordan in 1997 alongside Mike Gascoyne.
He then joined the French team at the end of the 2000 season and was promoted to head of aerodynamics in 2003.
According to a statement from Renault F1 Team: « His contribution to the team, both through his results and his courage in facing illness, is a source of inspiration. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family. »
