BMW-Sauber should intensify its efforts to replace Nick Heidfeld with former world champion Fernando Alonso for 2009.
In any case, that’s the opinion of Hans-Joachim Stuck, a famous German driver who competed in Grand Prix races in the 70s and is now head of Volkswagen’s division.
Stuck, who before his appointment at Volkswagen was long associated with BMW, believes that the German brand should sign a long-term contract with Alonso, who would have Robert Kubica as a teammate.
« I have nothing against Nick, but unlike Kubica, he is not a driver who can win a world championship, » Stuck clearly stated for Sport Bild.
Heidfeld, 31 years old, who has nearly 150 Grand Prix races to his name, is firmly battling alongside Kubica with his F1.08 to achieve the same performances as him.
Stuck added that Alonso would be the ideal alternative.
« If you have the means to secure an Alonso for the long term, then you must, » he insisted.
