Takuma Sato’s agent confirmed that his protégé and himself are 100% focused on the Japanese driver’s return to Formula 1.
After the Super Aguri team’s bankruptcy, Sato, 31 years old and who began his career in 2002, refused several racing opportunities such as at Le Mans or in American series. The goal was clear: a return to the premier category of motorsport.
The latest rumor about the former Super Aguri driver is his presence next year with Toro Rosso. With nearly 100 Grand Prix under his belt, this opportunity is a good fit for Gerhard Berger, who wants a share of experience within his team and, at the same time, would help Red Bull promote its flagship drink in the Japanese market.
His agent Andrew Gilbert-Scott, a former racing driver himself, confirmed for GPWeek that the focus is currently on Sato’s return to an F1 starting grid.
« Formula 1 is the only thing we are currently thinking about, » said the Briton.
« It is in this category that Takuma Sato deserves to be and naturally, we are talking with a number of people for 2009. »
