Bridgestone will celebrate its 200th race as a tire supplier in Formula 1 this weekend at the European Grand Prix.
The Japanese firm has won 132 races since its debut in 1997 but was the sole supplier between 1997 and 2000, before Michelin arrived for six years. Since 2007, Bridgestone has been the official supplier of this sport.
The director of the motorsport division at Bridgestone, Hiroshi Yasukawa, stated: « We are very pleased to celebrate our 200th Grand Prix since 1997. Entering Formula 1, 12 seasons ago, was a significant step for us. Our reputation has risen since that date. »
« Formula 1 is one of the biggest sports in the world, so we are very proud of our role as the official tire supplier, which will continue for at least two more years. »
Shoshi Arakawa, the president of Bridgestone, added: « Our participation in 200 races shows the level of commitment we have made. Participating in a major sport brings us many benefits and, in return, we hope to have contributed to the development of this sport. For our part, we emerge enriched. »
