Toro Rosso, which a few years ago was still called Minardi, revealed its full potential today on the new Valencia circuit. The drivers, with Sebastian Vettel in the lead, delivered solid races.
The German, since his appointment at Red Bull, impresses with his maturity but also and especially with his results. Our Frenchman, Sébastien Bourdais, was slightly more behind but still finishes in 10th place. Both drivers in the top 10, a testament to the prowess of the small Scuderia which comes out enhanced from this race weekend.
Sebastian Vettel – 6th:
« Incredible! A perfect day. It was a beautiful race. My start wasn’t as good as expected since I was on the dirty side of the track. In turn 1, I was very close to Kimi and managed to defend my position against Jarno Trulli. He had a bit more fuel on board and stayed out one lap longer, so he passed me in the pits. »
« But we can be very satisfied with this result. We made no mistakes over the weekend in order to maximize our performance. The whole team can be very proud of what it has accomplished. We hope, in the future, to be in the top ten again. »
Sébastien Bourdais – 10th:
« It was a very nice race aside from Heidfeld who broke my wing. I had to wait 17 laps losing about 20 seconds. After the pit stop, the two stints were of good quality with a good pace. »
« I am satisfied with the result and I think we had a good strategy. This is my best result since Australia. From the second stint, I felt much more comfortable and confident with my car, and I could push as I wanted. As for the next race at Spa, I hope to be in the points. »
Franz Tost – Director:
« All weekend, the team played its role wonderfully. We finished the race with our two drivers who started in sixth and tenth positions on the grid. It’s a solid result compared to Ferrari, which saw only one of its cars cross the checkered flag. Vettel had to make a good start since he was on the dirty side of the track. »
« Bourdais also had a good race. We demonstrated through our performance that we are improving from race to race and that we are looking forward to Spa and Monza. I am convinced that these two tracks, especially Monza, will be a perfect fit for our cars. »
