Scuderia Ferrari remains at the top of the constructors’ standings after this 12th round of the championship. It remains to be seen if they can hold this position for 6 more races as the pressure intensifies…
Indeed, one moment it’s Massa, the next it’s Räikkönen who retires, the situation is becoming increasingly delicate while the main rival, McLaren, is at the top. Six races, then, to contain the return of the Woking team to the constructor and six races to turn the situation around in the driver standings.
Felipe Massa – 1st:
« It’s fantastic to have won this race, especially after the disappointment in Budapest. The team did an incredible job preparing for this Grand Prix. Saturday, I’m on pole, and the victory on this Sunday with the fastest time to crown it all. »
« I made a good start and pushed as hard as I could from the first laps. In the second part of the race, the car was exceptional but also at the very end, when I equipped it with the softest tires. This is an important moment in my career and I need to continue working in this way. I’m sorry about what happened to Kimi. We need to keep a close eye on our reliability. »
Kimi Räikkönen – Retirement:
Not much to say after a day like this. It was definitely not the weekend I was hoping for. I still consider myself in the running for the title. There are still six races and sixty points up for grabs. We have seen that the situation can change very quickly, even though I realize now that things are more complicated.
« Today, I lost a position right from the start and got stuck in traffic. At the second stop, I made a mistake. Fortunately, Pietro Timpini is not seriously injured. I wish him all the best and hope he gets better very soon. Now, we have to focus on preparing for the next race and improving our performance in qualifying.
Stefano Domenicali – Ferrari F1 Director:
Felipe Massa had an extraordinary weekend. On Saturday, he was very fast in qualifying and drove impeccably well on Sunday. It’s a well-deserved victory after the disappointment of Budapest. I want to congratulate him and the whole team who worked tirelessly to prepare for this event. Unfortunately, once again, we suffered from a reliability issue, this time on Kimi Räikkönen’s car, which cost us valuable points.
« It is clear that what happened is serious and we must do everything in our power to make up ground. We still have two test sessions, at Monza and then at Jerez, and many days of work at the factory. »
