Buemi will be tested for Toro Rosso

Scuderia Toro Rosso will test Sébastien Buemi for a possible seat in 2009 during the Jerez tests in Spain next month.

The GP2 driver is also a young Red Bull driver. His manager, Helmut Marko, believes he represents the best chance for the junior Scuderia in 2009.

Indeed, co-owner Gerhard Berger confirmed that during the Jerez tests, the team would be observing Buemi’s capabilities, with the goal being to have a young driver alongside a more experienced one.

« We will test it in Jerez. It’s an evaluation for next year, » stated Berger.

Bruno Senna has also been linked with the sister team of Red Bull Racing. Berger added that he had never considered proceeding in this way, even though he had already announced that Toro Rosso would likely opt for a young driver next year.

« The ideal would be a young driver and another more experienced one. We are putting all available people on the same list, but there is nothing concrete at this stage. We will take our time. »

The Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais will stay with the team if he delivers good performances by the end of the season, while former Super Aguri drivers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson could also make a significant comeback.

Sato has an advantage since his nationality would help Red Bull penetrate the Japanese market for its famous energy drink.
