Delay in the construction of the Abu Dhabi circuit!

Philippe Gurdjian, who is in charge of the construction of the new Abu Dhabi circuit, disputes the rumors claiming that the track will not be ready to host the first Formula 1 race in November 2009.

This Grand Prix of the United Arab Emirates is scheduled to host the last race of the 2009 season. The circuit, currently under construction, will be located on Yas Island with sand dunes as the backdrop.

At the beginning of the year, Gurdjian resigned from his position as director of the Paul Ricard circuit in France, where F1 testing takes place, to oversee the Abu Dhabi project.

His appointment has fueled speculation that Abu Dhabi is striving to be ready by November 15, 2009.

« I don’t listen to what people say, » stated Gurdjian to the Arabic daily The National.

« We will soon be able to answer all questions regarding this project. »

The Frenchman has already been involved in organizing F1 races in France, Spain, Malaysia, and Bahrain. Finally, Bernie Ecclestone has great confidence in him.
