The big boss of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone, stated that there was no reason for Max Mosley to resign from the presidency of the FIA.
Ecclestone was one of the big names who asked Mosley to resign following revelations about his private life by the newspaper News of the World earlier in the year.
However, since then Mosley has won a lawsuit against the newspaper and Ecclestone believes that the sport must move forward.
« For a short period, I said he should resign because I was under immense pressure from people saying he absolutely had to leave his position. », Ecclestone told BBC Radio.
« Max is working as hard as he can for the sport, to ensure one hundred percent. All these people say they don’t want to respond to Max and don’t want to do this or that… All of this will disappear. I welcome him back. He must return and should continue as he has always done. »
Mosley declared that he would stop once his current term expires in October 2009, but Ecclestone is not certain that will be the case.
« Max said he would retire earlier and he didn’t. So, I don’t know. The problem is really, if we are really selfish and think about this sport as it is, it’s hard to know who will replace him doing all the things he does. »
