The Indian team Force India came very close to its best qualifying result as at the end of the first fast lap of the F1 drivers, Adrian Sutil was positioned in 14th place and thus had one foot in Q2. Unfortunately, his closest competitors improved their times.
The German and Giancarlo Fisichella therefore find more usual places with the 18th and 20th positions, respectively. But in this part of the grid, the gaps between the cars are tiny, and everything is still to play for in tomorrow’s race.
Adrian Sutil – 18th and 18th:
Today’s qualifying was very close. We expected to be in this rhythm and can be very satisfied with the overall performance. We knew the Honda drivers would be our closest competitors and that was the case. We have a fast car on the straights to make some overtakes and put on a great race tomorrow.
Giancarlo Fisichella – 17th and 20th:
« The balance of the car wasn’t too bad. I had a bit of traffic on my last run but also some issues with my rear tires. Graining appeared in three spots, which made me lose three to four tenths. I think there was a chance to achieve 16th position but tomorrow there’s also a good chance to overtake in certain areas. »
Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director:
« I think both drivers did a good job. Overall, we showed that we have closed the gap with the Williams and the Hondas, thanks to teamwork. »
