Report – New disappointment for the Williams team

New weekend where the Williams team was only a shadow of itself. The first Grand Prix in Melbourne is a far cry from the Belgian Grand Prix where both drivers, Rosberg and Nakajima, finished far behind.

In the end, it’s the 12th and 14th places, while various opportunities in the race were possible. In the constructors’ standings, Williams is being caught up by Toro Rosso, while both drivers are beyond the 14th place in the drivers’ championship.

Nico Rosberg – 12th:

« It wasn’t an exciting race for me. In the end, I achieved the best I could since my departure. The 12th place is probably the best result we could achieve. We now have to look ahead to Monza and try to improve the things that are holding us back. After the recent tests at Monza, we are confident that it’s a track that suits us. »

Kazuki Nakajima – 14th:

« It was a difficult race for me. I was in contact with other drivers in the first corner, which cost me some time. From that moment on, I tried to maintain a consistent pace because I was on a one-stop strategy. Considering that, I think my race pace wasn’t bad compared to other competitors around me in the standings. »

« I made progress during the race and then just at the end, the rain came. Then the decision to make was either a pit stop to switch to intermediates or to stay on track. In the end, we made the stop and changed the tires. »

Sam Michael – Technical Director

« It was a rather calm race as we simply weren’t competitive enough. We were on a one-stop strategy for both cars. This worked and helped improve our position, but not enough to get us into the points. The last lap in very wet conditions was an opportunity to see if we could gain any advantage. It worked for Heidfeld, but we were too far back to benefit. »
