Summary – Toyota sanctioned and inevitably disappointed

It was an eventful Belgian Grand Prix for Toyota this race weekend. Both drivers did not miss their start, unlike others in more than difficult conditions. However, Trulli’s race is ruined when the Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais collides with him.

He won’t recover and finishes 16th. Glock could have played the role of savior by finishing 8th, but unfortunately for him, the stewards clearly saw his overtaking maneuver on Webber while the yellow flags were waving. In the end, he is demoted to 9th position, giving up his place to none other than Webber…

Jarno Trulli – 16th:

« I am disappointed because I made an excellent start from 11th place to break into the top six, but I was hit from behind, which damaged the car. This accident caused a gearbox problem, and my only goal was to finish the race. »

Once again, I wasn’t very lucky. I was hoping for a solid race from us and to score some points. This was possible because we had a competitive strategy and had an excellent start.

Timo Glock – 9th:

I had a difficult race. I must say thank you to the team, especially the guys who work on the starts because they have been very good with the cars in the last two races. They did a perfect job.

« I couldn’t gain as many positions as I wanted in the first corner because I saw Sébastien Bourdais crash into Jarno Trulli’s car. I thought it would be a mess, so I tried to stay out of that commotion. In the first few laps, my tires didn’t heat up as I wanted. »

« When the rain started to fall, I made the decision to switch to wet tires and it was the right choice. »

Tadashi Yamashina – Team principal:

« We had an exceptional start with both cars but unfortunately, Jarno Trulli was hit at the first corner, which ruined his race. Without this accident, he would have achieved a good result as he had gained a lot of positions at the beginning and we had a competitive strategy. »

« Unfortunately, his gearbox and diffuser were damaged, which made the car very difficult to drive. The rain arrived fairly late in the race. »
