More than 23,000 fans have signed a petition urging the FIA to reconsider the sanction against Lewis Hamilton, who was stripped of his victory after the Belgian Grand Prix.
The way Hamilton was penalized for gaining an advantage by cutting a chicane in the last kilometers of the race particularly irritated the fans.
And a petition has been set up to have this 25-second penalty go down the drain.
The petition is addressed to the FIA: « We, the undersigned, insist that the FIA must reconsider its decision to add 25 seconds to the time recorded by Lewis Hamilton (McLaren-Mercedes) during the F1 Belgian Grand Prix that took place on September 7, 2008. »
« We believe that this decision was made wrongly and we strongly advise you to revert to the initial classification. The rules state that Lewis Hamilton was to give back the position gained to Kimi Räikkönen, which he did. He then freely and thanks to his driving skills won the race. »
