This year, the German Grand Prix accumulated a deficit of 5.3 million euros, and the mayor of Hockenheim, Dieter Gummer, clearly stated that this financial situation could not continue.
« The continuation of the Formula 1 Grand Prix beyond 2010 with the current agreement is not commercially viable, » he stated to the Mannheimer Morgen newspaper.
Hockenheim is scheduled to host the German Grand Prix until 2010. The Nurburgring circuit, which hosted the European Grand Prix until last year, is expected to return within two years to replace Hockenheim or at least alternate with it.
