BMW Sauber’s boss, Mario Theissen, believes that the Singapore Grand Prix will be the highlight of the 2008 Formula 1 season.
There will be 1500 spotlights illuminating the streets of Singapore this weekend for the sport’s first night race.
Theissen confessed that he was very impressed by the place.
« The setting is impressive and spectacular with all these skyscrapers, roads, and parks, » the German stated.
« It’s incredible. I’ve already gone over the route and I find it really different from what we’re used to seeing. I didn’t quite expect this. »
« In March, the circuit seemed much faster in certain areas. I thought that some were very difficult, particularly approaching the bridge. This has been significantly modified. »
« Security has been strengthened but at the expense of overtaking opportunities. If you look beyond the track, with the media enthusiasm or the commitment of the largest companies, for example, I think this Grand Prix will be the pinnacle of the season, » he continued.
However, Theissen is not sure that the Marina Bay circuit will see more overtaking than the Valencia circuit which, despite the praise, did not offer any spectacle in terms of overtaking.
« As in Valencia, the question mark for me is the overtaking. I expected something different from the Spanish track, which is certainly faster than this one. »
